What Brian Solis Taught Me About The Power Of Listening
Posted on 15. Mar, 2010 by Alejandro Reyes in Social Media Videos
Too many people talking wayyyyy toooo much & not listen for the opportunities that can take their business or brand to the next level.
In this video I share a story of how Brian Solis demonstrated the power of listening with social media. Not only does he write some of the baddest content in all of social media, but the guy truly practices what he preaches.
I’m going to be interviewing Brian soon re: his new book Engage: The Complete Guide for Brands and Businesses to Build, Cultivate, and Measure Success in the New Web (link to Amazon)
Make sure to follow Brian on Twitter & send him an @ mention him letting him know you saw this video. @briansolis
I’m interested to hear your thoughts on this video & the power of listening?

Awesome! It’s amazing how many people overlook the massive power of listening when it can really make or break your efforts. No one wants to follow someone who just yaps and yaps but doesn’t engage…well, unless you’re a celebrity or some expert or guru.

Very true Mike! I think even when you’re a celebrity or expert/guru, people will be MORE impressed with you when you listen to your audience.
Thanks for the comment brother.

Awesome post, thanks Alejandro! It really goes to show that being authentic and attentive goes a LONG way with people. I would have been impressed too! Can’t wait to hear what you think of the book.

That is a fantastic story! Thanks very much for sharing it. Brian has walked the talk here, by establishing good will with you and those of us who see this video, and that, in turn, will only further his standing in our eyes. Well done to both of you!

Great story. Great Example. Has application for all kinds of businesses using social media, especially Twitter. One of my self storage locations, Calvine StorageKings (@calvinestorage) has a pulled a bunch of feeds from search.twitter.com into google reader. When people in the Sacramento area tweet about moving, storage, rental trucks, etc. Carmella (the onsite manager) reaches out to them offering a discount on storage or the free use of our moving truck.
She tries to be a regular, friendly face on twitter 95% of the time. Just engaging with the community. Then, when it is appropriate, she reaches out with an offer.
No one cares about your stuff (except if they happen to be looking for it). Twitter, especially, makes those moments discoverable. Then both parties win.
